What is admixture?

Concrete admixtures are used to enhance the properties of concrete for applications in concrete works with special requirements.

Concrete admixtures are used to modify the properties of concrete to achieve desired workability in case of low water cement ratio, and to enhance setting time of concrete for long distance transportation of concrete.

What is cement additives?

Additives are chemicals and materials blended into base cement slurries to alter the performance of the cement. Due to the inherent nature of base cements (Neat, Portland and Pozzolanic) and because of the demands placed on the cement sheath throughout the life of the well, the performance properties of the cementing slurry are modified to address the specific and unique conditions of each well.

What is grouting?

Grout is a particularly fluid form of concrete used to fill gaps. It is used in construction to embed rebars in masonry walls, connect sections of pre-cast concrete, fill voids, and seal joints such as those between tiles. Grout is generally a mixture of water, cement, sand, often color tint, and sometimes fine gravel (if it is being used to fill large spaces such as the cores of concrete blocks). Unlike other structural pastes such as plaster or joint compound, correctly-mixed and -applied grout forms a waterproof seal.

What is sealant?

Sealant is a substance used to block the passage of fluids through the surface or joints or openings in materials, a type of mechanical seal. In building construction sealant is sometimes synonymous with caulking and also serve the purposes of blocking dust, sound and heat transmission.

What is tile adhesive?

Two basic types of material are used to install wall tiles for home renovations, such as a backsplash: portland cement-based mortar, which is also known as thinset, and mastic, an organic tile adhesive used only on drywall applications like backsplashes.

What is water proofing compound?

Masonry walls are built with a damp-proof course to prevent rising damp, and the concrete in foundations needs to be damp-proofed or waterproofed with a liquid coating, basement waterproofing membrane (even under the concrete slab floor where polyethylene sheeting is commonly used), or an additive to the concrete.

Why is my grout cracking and crumbling?

Grout is a Portland cement and must be mixed properly in order to adhere well and form a strong filler for tile joints. When mixing this particular cement with water, a proper consistency must be achieved. Improperly mixed grout can lead to weak grout lines that crumble and crack.

Grout can also crack along seams of walls where expansion and contraction occurs. This is common in shower installations. It is critical to caulk such areas to prevent water from penetrating behind a tile surface.

The solution to such problems is to remove the pre-existing grout and apply new grout and caulk.

Why should I seal my grout?

Grout is not waterproof and will absorb water as the shower is used. Sealing the surface will help prevent water from penetrating the tile installation, thereby help prevent mildew, and will make grout easier to clean.

Sealing should be done both when a tile surface is new and every few years thereafter. Sealing grout does not prevent grout from getting dirty, so it is recommended that a regular cleaning schedule be followed.
